Interest: History

Pretoria City Tour

Enjoy a historical tour of the capital city of South Africa. In spring, the jacaranda trees transform the city into a shimmering amethyst jewel. The ridges, valleys and natural fountains lend a beauty of their own which is enhanced by the cosmopolitan atmosphere and blend of traditions, cultures, languages and architecture. Visit the Union Buildings, which were the setting for President Nelson Mandela's historic inauguration on 10 May 1994. Also see a beautiful example of Victorian architecture, the setting where the Peace Treaty of Vereeniging, was signed which ended the Anglo-Boer War in 1902. Then visit the Voortrekker Monument, which commemorate the Great Trek.

Johannesburg City Tour

Tour to the city where gold was the catalyst, which triggered the development of Johannesburg. The city's, identity will always be closely linked with gold. In the heart of the city, mine dumps are constant reminders of its origins. In the central business district fortunes are made by the astute on the Stock Exchange each day. Skyscrapers tower over chic boutiques, aromatic Indian bazaars and African muti (medicine) shops, where traditional healers dispense advice and herbal remedies. Visit the highest building in Africa, the Carlton Centre, and see the "Top Of Africa," a panoramic view of Johannesburg, its surrounding areas and even see the Voortrekker Monument on a clear day. Continue to Museum Africa, which represents the cultures of the Southern African "Rainbow Nation."

Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve Tour

Visit the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve, a privately owned game reserve covering some 1400 hectares. The park contains White Rhino, Lion, Buffalo, Hippo and more than twenty other species of game. Specially erected enclosures afford visitors the opportunity to view and photograph rare and endangered species such as Cheetah, Wild Dog and the Cape Vulture.

Lion Safari Park Tour

Visit this magnificent park located to the north of Johannesburg and comprises 200 hectares of grassland and forests. Many species of game are visible from the game trails, which meander through the park. The actual lion area consists of six well-fenced camps, in which various prides of lions live and breed. More than 50 lions are accommodated here and there are nearly always lion cubs to be seen. The highlight of the tour is the opportunity to take a photograph holding a baby cub.

Lesedi Cultural Village Tour

Enjoy a tour at Lesedi, which is a multi-cultural village set amongst the pristine bushveld and rocky hills less than an hour's drive from Pretoria. You will visit four traditional homesteads and learn more about the different tribes - the Zulu's with their fighting sticks and cozy beehive huts, the rhythmic drums and whistles of the Pedi and the conical straw hats and thick, coloured blankets of the Basotho. Also see the Xhosa with their perfectly thatched "rondawels" and distinctive white blankets. You'll then enjoy a traditional African meal and dance with the families. Soweto Tour

Soweto, a sprawling metropolis of more than 3.5 million people on the outskirts of Johannesburg, is a multi-cultural composite of South Africa today. Peek into the past - hostels, Freedom Square, the struggle for liberty. Stand on the only road in the world which carries the honour of two recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize. The tour includes a full view of Soweto from the vicinity of Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, visits to African merchants of traditional medicines, a typical four-roomed dwelling and informal settlement, a crèche, an old age home, affluent suburbs and a typical Shebeen.

Gold Reef City Tour

Gold Reef City was built to recreate much of the lost heritage of early Johannesburg. Built on the site of, and incorporated as a Gold mine museum, it's a living pioneer town. In this mine 1.4 million kilogram of gold was mined. The buildings are faithful replicas of the architecture and styles, which grew from the mining camps. The tour includes a ride on a sightseeing train, small crafts village and a trip down the Gold Mine, Level 5 (220m / 785 ft below the surface). Cullinan Diamond Mine

Tour to the mine where on 25 January 1902 Thomas Cullinan discovered the immense diamond pipe in the area now known as Cullinan. The Premier Mine was established to work this pipe and ever since it has proved to be an inexhaustible source of diamonds. Enjoy a surface tour of the mine where in 1905 the largest diamond ever found in the world, the famed Cullinan diamond, was discovered here. The stone had a mass of 3106 carats which was fragmented into the 530 carat Star of Africa, the 317 carat Lesser Star of Africa, seven other gems and 96 lesser gems, all of which form part of the British Crown Jewels.

Two-day Pilanesberg National Park Tour

Day 1

Enjoy game viewing in 58 000-hectare reserve one of the largest in South Africa. It supports over 10 000 head of game, including the "Big Five" (elephant, leopard, lion, rhino and buffalo) as well as cheetah, hippo, giraffe, antelope and more than 350 prolific bird species. The tour includes game drives as well as overnight in the reserve.

Day 2

Enjoy another day in the Pilanesburg National Park, searching for the more elusive animals you have not yet sighted.  Pilanesberg  is one of the largest volcanic complexes of its kind in the world. The rare rock types and structure of the Pilanesburg make it a unique geological terrain.  Return to Pretoria/Johannesburg.

 

Waterberg Game Reserve Tour Program

Day 1

Depart from Johannesburg / Pretoria to a 8 000-hectare Game Reserve located in the Waterberg mountain range.  The Waterberg stretches over 150 km and is home to the  “Big Five”.  The Waterberg is one of South Africa’s last great wildernesses.  It’s also home to the famous Eugene Maraissi Cycad.  Experience nature in an open vehicle game drive.  Overnight in the reserve. 

Day 2

The day will be started with a pre-breakfast game drive in search of the “Big Five”.  In this reserve malaria free reserve you will see open grasslands surrounded by majestic mountains, natural rock formations and verdant bush.  There is an abundance of waterfalls, springs, and crystal clear mountain pools.

Kruger National Park

Day 1 - Long Tom Pass
Depart from Pretoria en route to the Kruger National Park, stopping at Dullstroom (famous for its trout farms) and then on to Lydenburg and over the Long Tom Pass to Hazyview. The route between the Long Tom Pass and Hazyview follows the course of the Sabie river and contains many scenic features, including the spectacular Lone Creek Falls.

Day 2 - The Kruger National Park
The day will be spent viewing game in the Kruger National Park. Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld, this national park of nearly 2 million hectares is unrivalled for the diversity of its wild life and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies. Kruger is home to an impressive number of 336 tree, 49 fish, 34 amphibian, 114 reptile, 507 bird and 147 mammal species.

Day 3 - The Panorama Route
The Panorama Route is a circular drive with several detours.  It runs from Graskop to the Blyde River Canyon, Pilgrim's Rest and back over the divide to Graskop.  Highlights of the trip include the Three Rondawels, God's Window and the Bourke's Luck potholes.
